School Of Athens - by Raphael

How can art be a mirror of society?
This painting was drawn during the Renaissance, also known as the rebirth of knowledge and this picture clearly represents knowledge because it is a painting of a school. Within this picture, there are people doing experiments, writing poems and discussing matters. The architecture in the painting reflects that of the Renaissance too as it is filled with arches, columns and pediments. This painting also uses a lot of artistic techniques that were developed during the Renaisssance such as vanishing point, anatomical accuracy, focal point, proportion, perspective and foreshortening. Most of the people in the painting are wearing robes and tuincs reprensnting the clothes of the Renaissance. This painting of The School Of Athens by Raphael demonstrates various elements that were mainly from the Renaissance time period.

What are you in the painting?

I personally think that I am like Pythagoras who is sitting on the far left of the paint writing on something. He happens to be teaching music to several people. I too have a passion for music and enjoy playing the drums and listening to music. Pythagorus was widely known for his mathematical skills and I feel that this is another traits we have in common. Out of all the my subjects, I find IM2 the easiest and it is one of my best classes. Pythagorus was said to look worried at times and the same has been said to me various times even though I am not actually worried. A lot of my teachers have commented on that I look too worried at times. I can proudly say that Pythagorus represents me the best in this painting for the following reasons.
